Cancleave has been in the family since 1962. It originated as a timber framed prefabricated construction and over the years has had block walls added around the outside and extended a couple of times. Although adequate in some respects, we felt that the stunning location warranted a more modern and energy efficient building to really make the most it all year round.

Obtaining planning permission to replace the existing building proved very difficult as we are located within the North Cornwall AONB, an SSSI and the Heritage Coast. Ideally we would have liked to raise the roof height enough to put a living room upstairs to maximise the amazing views. Sadly this was not allowed so we have had to settle for a single storey dwelling with a slightly raised roof ridge height. On the plus side, due to an error many years ago, it transpired that we actually owned a portion of the field to the north-east of the property. This has allowed us to open up the boundary and take full advantage of the fantastic views looking north over Bude Bay.

The new building footprint will be around 30% larger than the previous one. It will accommodate up to 8 people in 4 bedrooms, 3 of which will have en-suite shower rooms and in addition there will be a family bathroom.

The hub of the house will be an open plan kitchen/living/dining room with bi-fold doors opening out onto a terrace and the garden bordering the South West Coast path.

Underfloor heating and hot water will be provided by an Air Source Heating System with immersion backup.

The project is now very much underway with the old building having been demolished and the foundation laid for the new construction.

We hope to be ready to welcome guests to the all new Cancleave in early June. Although we are not yet taking bookings we welcome expression of interest enquiries. We plan to start taking bookings from early February when we have a better idea of how the project schedule is looking. Hopefully the weather will be kind and allow to crack on with it as planned.

We look forward to welcoming you in what we hope will be a much better year than the one we have all currently just endured.

May I take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
